Projects
NEPHELE
NEPHELE is funded by the Horizon Europe programme under the topic “Future European platforms for the Edge: Meta Operating Systems”. Its vision is to enable the efficient, reliable, and secure end-to-end orchestration of hyper-distributed applications over programmable infrastructure that is spanning across the compute continuum from Cloud-to-Edge-to-IoT, removing existing openness and interoperability barriers in the convergence of IoT technologies against cloud and edge computing orchestration platforms. To this end, NEPHELE introduces automation and decentralized intelligence mechanisms powered by 5G and distributed AI technologies.
MESON
MESON enables optimized cross-slice communication (CSC) within edge cloud infrastructures in order to enable synergies between co-located network services (e.g., a AR service can quickly access data from a social network service to provide personalized recommendations). MESON designed a CSC orchestration architecture and developed methods for the discovery and optimized placement of CSC-enabled services.
5GinFIRE COSMOS
COSMOS investigated the benefits of mobile application offloading to edge clouds, capitalizing the NFV/SDN facilities and functionalities of 5GINFIRE. The project implemented a smart touristic use case, at which visitors exploit the image processing capabilities of their portable devices and the computing capacity of nearby edge cloud servers to automatically retrieve useful information about nearby Points of Interest.
NECOS
NECOS designed and implemented a multi-domain cloud slicing orchestration platform in order to enable the concurrent deployment and operation of network slices at large scale. To facilitate the management of a slice by each tenant, NECOS instantiates a dedicated VIM-on demand within each slice. A prominent component of the NECOS system architecture is the Resource Marketplace, which enables a Slice Broker to discover resources and map the various slice segments onto the cloud infrastructures.
